Open Question: Why is the U.S. Mint website sold out of so many of their coins?
I went on the U.S. Mint website tonight to check out the prices of various coins, including the First Spouse gold coins and the Presidential coins as well as the American Eagle gold coins. To my surprise, there are many, many of these coins that are currently not available.
I don’t understand it. The government needs money, as evidenced by their (our) increasing debt, and people in this country need jobs. Why is the U.S. Mint “sold out” of all these coins and also ceasing production of many of them as well? What is stopping them from hiring more employees, producing more coins, and selling the coins to all who want to buy them? It’s a total joke. I understand that they have to limit production at some point, but I think they’re being way too stingy.
Yes, Liberty 911, I guess I do want them to get bigger. lol I just don’t see why, in the year 2009, there should be anything preventing me from going to the Mint’s website and buying all of the First Spouse coins that have been release so far without having to worry about some silly production limit hindering my ability to do so.
Resolved Question: How do I sell my American Eagle one ounce coins?
I would like to sell my five American Eagle gold coins while the price is still high.
How do I go about it without incurring a big commission?
I bought it from a dealer. He charges about $30-50 charge to buy or sell them.
That’s per coin.
Resolved Question: Capital gain tax on physical gold?
I think that people are supposed to pay a capital gain tax on physical gold, but how can the IRS track it?
For instance if my grandfather gives me gold that I sell, I don’t even know how much gain I made on the sale.
If I buy gold coins in a shop, do they give me a tax form to fill out so that I can pay capital gain taxes?
